Green Options is a social content network based on Corank. For the moment, registration is open to the public, but this will change quite shortly. What I intend to do with this Digg-like bookmarking site is to make it a hub for my own network of friends, bloggers, social media enthusiasts, and web communicators to post our own content and gather all the pages we'd like to share with each other all in one convenient location. Any registered user can submit stories and give the thumbs up or down to the stories submitted by other users.
Categories are limited to my own areas of interest, for the time being, as I can only go through a few stories each day, using my Google Reader. These are Business, Blogging, Environment, Health, Marketing, Politics, Social Media, Technology, and World Affairs. As more people come on board to contribute stories, we will be adding more categories to the site to make sure the stories submitted are easily accessible to the submitter and the other users of the site.
In terms of promotion, I'm actually just beginning to promote the site and the featured stories on Twitter and Facebook. As with the other sites I've worked on, Green Options will eventually evolve into a hub or central point on which all the other web 2.0 properties I'm developing for the project, including this blog on Posterous will revolve. All the sites and many of the stories featured at Green Options will also get their exposure in this network of sites I'm currently creating to add value to all users.
My vision for Green Options is for it to become, first and foremost, a tightly-knit community of 50-100 people sharing, enjoying, and helping promote each other's submitted content across the web. I don't see any merit nor do I have the resources to shoot for a big user base. A small group would make it possible for people to really get to know other users, network with each other, and make sure that all stories submitted will have their moment under the spotlight. The other inherent advantage would be in the quality of submissions - it's harder to detect spam posts when you have a huge user base, unless you're ready to employ an army of curators. I intend to keep it small and simple right now.
Again, welcome to Green Options and let's keep the good stories coming.
